The Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise anchored near Murmansk with a Russian Coastguard gunboat and tug, indications are that Greenpeace are going to need a new crew, assuming the Russians let them have Arctic Sunrise back.
The world now knows, the Russians are playing hardball with the self appointed Green Guardians of Gaia, and not before time it must be said, for too long now insidious Green NGO’s have had the ear of governments, contributed to the junk science of the IPCC and feel they can interfere with legal operations of any country, if they, Greenpeace do not agree with it.
There would be at least some credibility if the position Greenpeace adopted was based on sound observed science, instead according to Dr Patrick Moore one of the founders of Greenpeace, who has since parted company with the NGO:
The speaker was also highly critical of the organization he co-founded, claiming it’s counter-productive today from an environmental standpoint.
“The organization should at least base its positions on science,” he said.
Basing it on the truth as well would be a good starting point, but as the late Bob Hunter, another co-founder of Greenpeace once said “that if environmentalism were to become a mass movement then it would have to become an ideology because not everyone can be a PhD“.
Greenpeace have already been caught lying about operations in the Arctic in July 2012 with a spoof video they kept silent about to give the illusion it was real, Greenpeace went on to create a fake scandal and then lied about the scandal they created.
So when Greenpeace say they weren’t acting as pirates can they be believed?
The answer is undoubtedly yes they can be believed, but this is completely irrelevant to the Russians who have had enough of environmentalists protesting everything, while the emasculated molluscs who masquerade as politicians and leaders in the west sycophantically stick their noses up the Green asses of the NGOs, politicians in Russia have decided that enough is enough, Greenpeace and their activists are going to be made an example of.
Russian authorities have formally charged five Greenpeace activists with piracy, with a further 25 facing similar charges.
Kieron Bryan, a freelance videographer from Britain; Ana Paula Alminhana, from Brazil; Dmitri Litvinov, a Swedish-American; Sini Saarela, from Finland; and Roman Dolgov, from Russia were charged with “piracy as part of an organised group” on Wednesday morning, according to Greenpeace. They face up to 15 years in jail each if found guilty.
The touching “if found guilty“, those charged were guilty and their sentences already decided before they were charged, what comes next is the Show Trial.
Democracy has not figured very much in Russian history if at all, the Russians have always been ruled by autocrats or despots, be it czar or president.
The Show Trial really came about under Stalin between 1936 and 1938, where anyone who triggered Stalin’s very active paranoia chip, got a Show Trial which always came with the matching accessory of a death sentence. Stalin’s paranoia executed most of the Russian Army generals which is why the Germans did so well in 1941 – 1942 because the only generals left were impotent yes men.
Prosecutors are expected to lay charges against all 30 during the next couple of days.
The executive director of Greenpeace International, Kumi Naidoo, said the decision by Russian authorities to charge the activists represented “the most serious threat to Greenpeace’s peaceful environmental activism” since the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior in 1985. The captain of the Arctic Sunrise, American Peter Willcox, was also the captain of Rainbow Warrior at the time. He is being held in Murmansk but has not yet been charged.
As Kumi Naidoo should know all too well from his own past, one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter, or in this case one man’s environmental activist is another man’s pirate, if you play with fire then getting your fingers burned is an occupational hazard.
“A charge of piracy is being laid against men and women whose only crime is to be possessed of a conscience,” said Naidoo. “Any claim that these activists are pirates is as absurd as it is abominable.”
No more absurd than basing all your never ending protests on junk and politically motivated science.
These Greenpeace activists are going to be used as an example to the rest of the warming alarmist movement that Russia is serious, from the way this is panning out there will be some activists that get the longer sentences, probably 8 – 10 years, these people will have been specially selected to send a message back to their country of origin, other Green sheep 3 – 5 years.
The fate of the captain and the Arctic Sunrise is slightly less clear at this time, no charges have so far been brought against him, but if members of his crew are found guilty of piracy then the captain must also be a pirate, and the Arctic Sunrise a pirate ship.
